WALLYBALL GLOSSARY

Attacking -- Hitting the ball into the opponent’s court.
Attack block -- Attempt to intercept the ball before it crosses the net.
Back set -- A set made over the head behind the setter executed with two (2) hands.
Block -- A play by one or more players who attempt to intercept the ball over tor near the net.
Contacted ball -- A contacted ball is one that touches or is touched by any part of a player’s body or clothing.
Dig -- A pass of a spiked ball while standing, diving, rolling or jumping.
Dink -- Usually a one-hand hit in which the tips of the fingers are used to hit the ball to an area of the opponent’s court.
Dive -- An attempt to recover a ball by going to a prone position on the court.
Forearm pass -- A ball played off the forearms in an underhanded manner.
Foul - A failure to play the ball properly as permitted under the rule
Jump set -- The player setting the ball jumps to confuse the blocker or to place himself in a better position to save a long pass that will drop over or hit the net.
Netting -- Touching the net while the ball is in play.
Off speed shot -- A ball that rapidly loses momentum due to reduced speed of the striking arm just prior to contact.
One set -- An extremely low vertical set delivered from one to two feet above the net. The spiker contacts the ball while the set is rising.
Pass -- The reception of the serve of first contact or the ball.  It is an attempt to control the movement of the ball to another player.
Seam -- The area directly between two receivers or diggers
Serve overhand -- Serve performed with an overhand throwing action.
Serve underhand -- Serve performed with an underhand striking action.The ball is usually contacted with the heel of the hand.
Set -- A pass that places the ball lin position for a player to spike.
Regular set -- A ball that is delivered in a high arc that should drop about two (2) feet from the net.
Setter -- The player who sets the ball to the spiker.
Side-out -- When the receiving team wins the rally and gets to serve.
Speed scoring -- A point scored at the end of each rally or dead ball.
Spike -- A ball hit forcibly down with one hand.
Spiker  -- A player who performs a spike, dink, or off speed hit.
Clean Hit is went the player is not (Holding, lifting, scooping, pushing, or carrying the ball with one or two open hand.
Paintbrush spiking the ball with the tip of your fingers and create a spins on the ball.
Cobra  hit One hand hit in which the close tip of the fingers are used to hit the ball.
