![]() Canada Wallyballer. To the wallyballers in Canada that still have questions about the SPIN SERVE refer to the section 6:02 in the 1998 AWA Wallyball rulebook. it state, Guiding or directing or pushing or paintbrushing the serve is illegal. The serve must be cleanly struck. The key words CLENLY STRUCK meaning if the ball restts on the servers hand for an unreasonable amount of time, the server can easily and illegally guide or direct the ball. Where as, the spin serve,is a cleanly hit ball that does not res on the servers hand, bud is usually hit in an area of the ball that will provide the spin. The call is up to the discretion of the referee. Changes of Rules Some of the players may have gotten the word that AWA has change the no blocking the serve rule back, yes after thousands of email and hundreds of telephon call we decide to change the controversial rule to, It is ILLEGAL for player to block or spike a served ball.

Deflection the ball off the back wall. If a player contacts the ball in such manner that the ball deflects off the back wall on his side of the court and go over the net, the ball shall be considered good. New Idea? Just thought I'd drop AWA a line as a fellow Wallyball player We have been playing for about 3 years and really enjoy it. After having several close calls on people being hit by hard serves, we amended the rules in our club that we don't allow any walls to be used on the serve. You can come as close as you can, but you can't hit it. We have found it takes more finess to not hit the wall. Any one can use brute force on a serve. Additionally, it makes for longer volleys. Mike Tincher (United Gay Athletic) Paintbrush Serve . Some of the teams I have played (4-on-4) have had players that use an overhand service with backspin. The ball strikes the opposing wall, and drops down at a steeper angle that usual Is this what is referred to as a "paintbrush serve" and therefore illegal by AWA rules? Are there legal service techniques that allow spin to be put on the ball, or must all serves be hit cleanly. Please send Answer towilkes@sprint.net |
