Wallyball in NASA

This is my 9th year organizing our league the NASA Lewis Wallyball League. We've been playing for 10 years, at the Parma Courts, in Parma Ohio. They have 9 racquetball courts and 6 that accommodate Wallyball.
We typically have 10 teams in our league. We
are better than any other league at our facility, and
most of our players play advanced or intermediate
wallyball leagues. I rated us "Intermediated." Several of our teams could be considered "Advanced" but we are always trying to add new players. Usually a handful every year, so there is always a learning
curve for those few players. I based our league rules on Joe Garcia's We've made changes as necessary.
We have lots of fun and we are semi-coed. 4 players, one of which must be a female player.

New York

At the point of Brooklyn, which kisses Manhattan, some great wallyball is being played! All levels; Men, Women, and Co-ed. Accessible from the West Side Highway, East Side Highway, , long Island Expressway Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and belt parkway. The “Eastern Athletic Club”, in Brooklyn Heights, welcomes wallyballers from the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Staten, Island, Brooklyn, Long Island, and the greater Metropolitan area.
We play on Sundays, from 2pm to 7pm and Monday nights, from 9pm to 11pm.

Idaho Rebuilding Interest:
I am the manager at Ad cope Athletic Club in Lewiston, Idaho. Although, for years now, we’ve had wallyball “accommodations”, interest in the sport tends to wax and wane. Recently, I have been working to increase interest and really get the program off the ground. Interest is steadily increasing. I have recently scheduled a tournament for mid November, primarily to increase local interest. I would appreciate any suggestions or help you could offer on how to get my program going.

  Ecuador Wallyball is Hot:

For The past 2 months two Ecuadorian young people have been working in the creation of the Ecuadorian Association of Wallyball.

Our sport is relatively new here. Although it has been practiced for more than 6 years, officially, we have never had championships for at least 4 years, with sporadic character and without any accepted regulation generally by the participants.
Like other players of the world, their speed, emotion, and exigency have turned it into a very attractive sport, especially between the young people between the 17 and 25 years, although players of all the ages exist.

In Ecuador, it practices in different leagues, related generally to sport clubs, like Municipal Tennis Club, Quito Tennis and Golf Club, the County, Club of Buena vista Tennis, Sunset Club, Club the Chillos, etc. Additionally, other deprived institutions exist, of educative and enterprise the sector, which they count on particular fields, between which we can count Catholic University of Ecuador, Tecniseguros (Insurance agency), Popular Bank of Ecuador
The number of players at level of the city of Quito, capital of the republic and main fan center, is very difficult to determine, because no single fields of Wallyball in sport clubs and institutions exist as above detailed, but in particular houses inside and outside the city.
At the present time at least we can tell two important championships to the year, in different Clubs from the city, different several categories (Men, Women and co-ed) and each one from them in two levels:

Nascent (basic level) and Open (competition)

Juan Carlos Vásconez and Santiago Mosquera, who are organizing the association, consider that the potential is enormous. After surpassed the first difficulties of organization, they face the standardization of the game styles and its correct diffusion. They hope to increase the number of fans substantially, through championships and their entailment to an international association that foments the competition at worldwide level. Rudy Morel helped to this initiative directly that we hope begins to render its fruits as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Juan Carlos Vásconez
 and Santiago Mosquera

Cobra Shot!
Q). What is a cobra shot and what is a dink. I am 6’0” tall and often am set the ball at the net and slap it down on the other side. If the hand is cupped (cobra shot?) is it legal? I am not tall enough to fist it down. The hardcore players at our gym give me hell because of this shot and say that only a closed handspike is allowed.

A).
A Dink- Usually a one hand hit in which the tips of the fingers are used to hit the ball to an area of the opponent’s court.
Cobra Shot- One hand hit in which the close tips of the fingers are used to hit the ball.
Both shots are legal.

Open Hand Serves:
Q). There are 6 of us that get together every Wednesday night at the local YMCA and play wallyball. We currently have 2 guys who both hit with an open hand on the serve. One gets a little to moderate spin on the ball and the other does not get any. We have considered the one who spins the ball as illegal, but he feels that since both players hit open handed, they are the same shot. Which shots are illegal? Is any type of an open hand shot allowed on a serve? How much spin is allowed on a serve?
A.) The player in the back position of the court shall put the ball in play by hitting it with one hand only or any part of the player’s arm in an attempt to send the ball over the net and into and into the opponent’s court.  The serve is good if the ball passes over the net without touching a member of the serving team or the net.  A served ball that hits a wall on either the serving team’s side or the receiving side is good provided the ball contacted does not contact two or more consecutive walls before being played or landing on the floor.
