AWA
donate balls to Refugees of Afghanistan and East
Timor!!!!
by Angel
Ramos
As
part of its ongoing commitment to
development, this year the AWA will be
supporting refugees in East Timor and
Pakistan.
50 Wallyballs and 10 nets have
been sent to the UNHCR to be used for
the enjoyment of the refugees.
The AWA has been involved with
the UNHCR since 1999.
The efforts of the UNHCR in East Timor
is limited to the temporary reception,
repatriation to places of origin and the
reintegration of the returnees from West
Timor.
The donated Wallyball equipment
will be used at the Transit Centres
where refugees are housed for one to two
days before returning to their place of
origin.
Between 600 to 1,300 returnees
are accommodated at the Transit Centres
each month.
The living conditions are very
basic and the provision of balls and
nets will allow the returnees to make
this time less stressful.
The refugee camps of Pakistan along the
border of Afghanistan are currently
providing primary education to
approximately 130,000 refugee children
at almost 345 schools.
The donation of the balls and
nets will be used at the schools for the
enjoyment of the refugee youth.
Wallyball can help to provide
children with an area of self-discovery
outside the constraints of domestic and
social responsibilities and from the
trauma of flight.
Together with UNHCR, AWA hopes to aid
refugees to overcome the rigours of
returning to their homeland and the way
of life of the camps.
AWA believe that sport is an
important aspect of life and are proud
to donate equipment to those in need.

I would like
to draw your attention to a game that
originated 7 years before 1979 and is
still played today.
The game of Deckerball was created in
1972 which is very similar to the game
of wallyball and could be the predecessor
to the game of what you now call
wallyball. In Kansas, IL, a high school
physical education teacher and a couple
of his students, including Mark Decker
sat down to create a game that combined
several skills from other games that
would be used for indoor play during bad
weather situations.
By combining handball (racquetball with no
racquet), tennis, and volleyball,
they arrived at the game that is called
Deckerball (after Mark Decker). In the
first few year of the game, Mr. Glosser sent the game to be published in the New
England Sports and Recreation Journal.
It is unknown if the information was
published, but shortly after several
universities and colleges wrote to
request information
about Deckerball. Mr. Glosser left
Kansas High School, and the game
followed him. During his tenure at Neoga
High School, in Neoga, IL,
Deckerball has been a staple in the
physical education of students. As far
as Mr. Glosser knows Deckerball in its
purest for is played exclusively at
Neoga Jr./Sr. High School. Any
information concerning these finding can
be directed to this email account. Thank
you for your time and patients.

Europe
Wallyball |
This
is my article for the European
wallyballer.
Dear
players of wallyball in Europe and
around the world,
My
name is Paul Christopher FEITZ and I am
manager of the Dutch Wallyball Community
and Chairman of the Dutch Wallyball
Foundation.
In my capacity of manager/chairman and
wallyball enthusiastic I have been
getting in touch with the known
wallyball facilities of the European
wallyballers in England, Ireland,
Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Portugal,
Bulgaria, France, Austria and outside
Europe with Israel.
However,
I have managed to set up a game with the
players of wallyball in Belgium, which
resulted in a International wallyball
Championship on the 9th of December
2001.
Well, once again and hopefully with a
lot of success and with the kind help of
the American Wallyball Association I am
trying to get in touch with you to draw
up an inventory of all the European
wallyballers and European Wallyball
facilities, to exchanging wallyball
ideas and experiences, for future
European contests and/or tournaments in
different categories, for trying to
establish the first European Wallyball
Championship in different categories in
the Netherlands in the years to come.
|
|
I
will like to start with an e-mail
(electronic) or snail mail (by letter)
correspondence with you all and/or your
facilities and of course to maintain our
correspondence with each other, for
creating and publishing an European
newsletter in several foreign languages,
such as and in alphabetical order
"English, French, German and
Spanish", to promote wallyball in
your country and in Europe, to trying to
form an European
"intermediate" and
"novices" (male and/or female)
team and/or teams to go to the United
States of America in the future,
specially for playing in a few of the
most important American and Canadian
tournaments and for calling the
attention of the American Wallyball
Association in your country.
When you are interested in wallyball and
when you are interested in the above
mentioned please send an e-mail to Paul
Christopher FEITZ in the Netherlands,
mail to wallyball@planet.nl or
wallyball2000@hotmail.com or make a
phone-call to 00 31 79 341 92 01 or
write to the American Wallyball
Association, which will guide your
letter to the Dutch Wallyball Foundation
in the Netherlands.
Feel free to visit my website, although
it is mostly written in the Dutch
language, it will give you some ideas
about Dutch wallyball and my community
and Foundation, which is officially
sanctioned by the American Wallyball
Foundation

Alaska Wallyball |
My
name is Annette Brion and my husband Bill and I
own and operate Bentalit Lodge, a remote Alaskan
retreat. Most of our guests visit us for
the excellent opportunities to fish for Alaskan
Salmon, but I would like to mention that we also
have a regulation size racquetball/wallyball
court.
We are located
approximately 80 air miles NW of Anchorage in
the remote bush location of Fish Lakes, near
Lake Creek off the Yentna River. Bentalit
Lodge is a new facility, designed and built by
my family, and can accommodate up to 16
guests. Each guest room has it's own
bathroom (a rare thing out here in the woods),
and we make every effort to offer the finest
service. We would love to promote our
wallyball/racquetball facility as it is a unique
ammentity in our remote location. For more
information, please visit our websitewww.bentalitlodge.com
and feel free to contact us with any
questions. Thank you very much and we look
forward to hearing from you!
